Art education:
Byam Shaw School of Art and Royal College of Art (MA, Painting, 1985).

Artist in Residence, National Gallery in 1989; Barclays Bank Award, 1985; GLC Peace Prize, 1989; Abbey Award in Painting, British School of Rome, 1996; included in the John Moores Painting Prize, Whitechapel Open (Commendation, 1997); Winner, Jerwood Painting Prize, 1998, and shortlisted for the Charles Wollaston Award, Royal Academy, London, in 2000.

Participated in the Sharjah International Biennial 6 in UAE in 2003 and Zoo Art Fair in 2004. Exhibited regularly in Italy since 1996 and included in numerous group and one person shows in Britain and abroad.

Life:
Born in Cologne, childhood in Germany and Italy.
Lived and worked in London for most of my life.
Travelled extensively in North Africa and the Middle East when I was in my twenties and learnt some Arabic, only to discover very recently that I have a (half) brother and his huge family in Israel.

Interests

art and life: best known for large painting-based installations exploring the notion of conflict.
